Grave photoDouglas Kermode Craine, known as Jock, was a Stoneleigh personality, He and his sisters Nan, Elsie and Jan, together with the "helpers" catered for so many famous people including Yehudi Menuhin,Enoch Powell, Arthur Scargill and Sir Malcolm Sargent. The family worked at the Royal Show on several stands for many years - on one occasion meeting The Duke of Edinburgh. When catering at Stoneleigh Abbey, Jock was a resplendent figure in his chef's outfit. When the Craine family left the village shop, Jock delivered newspapers all round the Stoneleigh area. He also sold cigarettes to workmen he met and to those at Finham Works. In later years Jock worked on his garden with Elsie, producing the first strawberries. Jock had been born on Christmas Eve 1930 in Uxbridge. He died early in 1997 and was buried on 21 January. His gravestone is touchingly engrave "Loved by all."
