Charles Prime
Charles Prime's family lived in Stoneleigh for two generations before him, and descendants were still in the village in the 1960s. He was the penultimate child of John and Hannah Prime nee Foster; the family numbered ten children altogether.
Charles was born in early 1844 and baptised at Stoneleigh on 12 May. Like his father he worked on the estate, and in the last census during his life-time, 1901, he was described as a forester's labourer. On 20 February 1879 he married Eliza Prentice at Stoneleigh and they went on to have four sons and a daughter, and played a large part in the life of the village. They lived on Birmingham Road.
When Charles died suddenly on 22 March 1909 newspaper reports described him as an old and respected inhabitant who had been a member of Stoneleigh Fire Brigade for some years. He was buried on 25 March. (His memorial urn is of a much later date and is inscribed with 23 March as his date of death.)
