B16.3

Grave drawing
Grave photoSarah and Thomas Hadley Sarah and Thomas were married in Stoneleigh 12 February 1782, their witnesses were Thomas Bartlett and Mary Hadley, who married a few months later in July. Sarah nee Garrett was the daughter of Robert and Mary Garratt from Allesley, baptised 23 December 1758. Thomas's history is not so clear. At his burial 20 September 1830 he was registered as Thomas Hadley from Manchester age 77 and his rather fine slate headstone records 'late of Coventry'. This fits with a Sheldon baptism 6 January 1755, Thomas the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hadley. However, in Sheldon at that time we also found the baptisms of the children of Thomas & Sarah Hadley (see B14.3); William 1756, Margaret 1758, Mary 1759, and this family then moved to Stoneleigh. It is just possible that Thomas b.1755 was the eldest son in this family rather than a son of Elizabeth, at any rate with the move to Stoneleigh from Sheldon he would likely be a relative. Sarah and Thomas had four children; Sarah 1784, Thomas 1785, Mary 1786 and Ann 1788, all baptised at St. Michael, Coventry. In 1841 widow Sarah was living in Bubbenhall with her widowed daughters Mary Brothers and Ann Perry and was buried in Stoneleigh 23 Nov 1842 age 87. (See also B14.2 Perry)
