Joseph, Mary and George Judd
Three siblings are named on this stone, children of
William and Mary Judd who are buried alongside at
D 18.1. Their oldest brother
William and his family are buried at
B 20.1.
Five of the children of William and Mary Judd had been baptised on the same day, 20 January 1795. Joseph, who was born in 1782/3, had died on Christmas Day 1793, and was buried on 29 December.
Mary was the eldest child of the family, probably born in 1776: she was "in the nineteenth year of her age" when baptised in January 1795. She died on 16 October 1798 and was buried on 18 October. Strangely, another brother, six year old Edward, had died a few weeks earlier, on 31 August the same year, but does not appear on the gravestone.
More mysteriously still, George, who was stated to be in the sixth year of his age when baptised in January 1795, was buried on 18 November 1794, having died the day before! Was his baptism posthumous??
