Alice Smith nee Hollick was born on 20 October 1859 in Fillongley, the daughter of Matilda Hollick. Her father is unknown, and in 1861 she and her older sister Maria were living with their mother and grandparents John and Elizabeth Hollick in Fillongley. In 1867 her mother married widower Arthur Kimberley, by whom she went on to have a son; by the time of the 1871 census Alice had taken her step-father's surname and the family was living at Westwood Heath.
Under the name Hollick, however, she married William Smith, the son of John Smith and his wife Ann Tabitha nee Job, on 12 January 1885 at St Michael's Coventry, when she was 25. They went on to have five children, and lived in Stoneleigh from at least 1891. Widowed before 1939, Alice was at that date living in the almshouses.
Her date of death is uncertain but may have been in 1950. She has no headstone but family photographs of the recent interment seem to date from that time.
